The No. 12 K-State volleyball team traveled all the way to Lubbock, Texas, to face Texas Tech, and the match was over in less than 80 minutes.
The Wildcats (18-6, 10-4 Big 12 Conference) defeated Texas Tech (7-16, 1-13 Big 12) Wednesday in three games by scores of 30-14, 30-19, 30-22. The Wildcats' victory marks their 13th sweep of the season and seventh in conference play. Texas Tech lost its 13th match in a row, one of which was a sweep by K-State on Oct. 17th.
Four Wildcats tallied double-digit kills for the second time in as many matches. Junior outside hitter Rita Liliom guided K-State's attack, finishing with 19 kills on .444 hitting. The other Wildcats leading the way were Jenny Jantsch (13), Nataly Korobkova (10), and Kelsey Chipman (10). All four hit over .300, and Chipman chalked up a team-high .529 percent.
Chipman also led K?State at the net, recording one solo block and two block assists. Korobkova, senior setter Stacey Spiegelberg and junior middle blocker Megan Farr were the other Wildcats finishing with blocks.
Angie Lastra tallied a match-high 17 digs for the Wildcats, adding to her K?State career-dig record. Four other K-State players added five or more digs to the cause.
After the Wildcats missed the first point of game one, K-State scored 11-straight points, headed by five Korobkova kills. The team continued its hitting performance throughout the game, leading 18-3. The Red Raiders made a brief attempt at a comeback but were silenced at 30-14 by a Jantsch block. The Wildcats finished with a .533 hitting percentage, their best of the night.
Texas Tech held the Wildcats in check during the beginning of game two, but K-State took off and led by at least three points for the rest of the game.
Game two proved to be the closest, as K-State led 19-17. The Wildcats quickly went on a 4-0 run, and Texas Tech could not make up the lost ground.
Early in game one, Nataly Korobkova aced the Red Raiders, continuing the Wildcats' streak of 279 matches with at least one service ace. Lastra and Chipman also added aces for K-State.
The Wildcats will return to Ahearn Field House on Saturday as they face Nebraska. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
