K-State tennis club places ninth at Tennis on Campus Sectionals

During a tennis club practice, Jenna Murphy, senior in public relations, returns a shot Feb. 3 in the Cottonwood Racquetball Club.

The tennis club recently competed at the Missouri Valley Tennis on Campus Sectionals in Norman, Okla., and won the silver bracket.

K-State's overall placing was ninth out of 11 universities and 16 teams. The top three universities advanced to the national competition in North Carolina.

Competing for K-State included Jan Bayer, non-degree undergraduate in mechanical engineering; Kelly Chang, graduate student in business administration; Matt Kerl, senior in finance; Stacy Davis, junior in interior design; Rebecca Law, sophomore in pre-professional business administration and Jenna Murphy, senior in public relations.

K-State was in Pool D with Drake, Saint Louis University (A squad) and Haskell Indian Nations University. The Wildcats lost to Drake, 26-21. They also fell to Saint Louis, 27-20. They beat Haskell, 30-4. The points were from matches of: men's and women's doubles, men's and women's singles and mixed doubles.
