In a dominating performance in the intramural basketball final, Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was near perfect.
Sig Ep, the fraternity league champions with a 5-0 playoff record, crushed independent league champs Andrew Don't Shoot, 54-19. The game was called with 10 minutes to go in because of the mercy rule in intramural basketball at K-State.
Andrew Don't Shoot wasn't originally going to play, but the independent team highlighted by sophomore quarterback Josh Freeman was disqualified for having an ineligible player. Daniel Gonzalez, a former K-State receiver who graduated in December, was not allowed to be on the team because he wasn't a K-State student.
From the opening play, Sig Ep was in control of the game, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Andrew Don't Shoot was able to answer with a bucket, but the three-point deficit was the closest they would get the rest of the game.
Andrew Don't Shoot just couldn't put the ball in the basket. They made only eight baskets the entire game.
Tyler Price, senior in electronic journalism and member of Andrew Don't Shoot, said he and his teammates were saddened by their loss, but they were still grateful.
"Sig Ep played really well and their fans are interesting," Price said. "This was our second loss, but it was really sweet to play in."
Addison Price, junior in marketing and member of the Sig Ep team, said their team came into the season with their eyes on winning the title.
"We knew coming into the year we were a good team," Price said. "Me and my roommate set a goal to win the championship. Big props to our crowd because they followed us to every game."
