In the wake of the tornado that ripped through Manhattan late last night, K-State officials have canceled classes for Thursday, according to the K-State Web site.

Freshman Orientation, which was taking place in the K-State Student Union, has been moved to Bramlage Coliseum. Pat Bosco, associate vice president of institutional advancement and dean of student life, said all campers in the residence halls are safe and those halls sustained no damage.

Weber Hall, on the north side of campus, sustained damage, but the total damage is unconfirmed at press time. The parking lot north of Waters Hall is littered with downed light poles, overturned vehicles and broken tree limbs. Many of the buildings on campus are without power.

Facilites employees are to report to work as scheduled to help clean the campus of downed tree limbs and debris, and those employees who are working for orientation should report to Bramlage Coliseum.

Employees of housing, feeding and safety of students and campus buildings are asked to go to campus if possible and all other employees have the day off.
